The kitchen is a crucial space in many Vietnamese homes. When designing a kitchen, we need to consider the height and size of the kitchen cabinets to ensure they are proportionate to the room’s area and the user’s needs. So, what are the standard kitchen cabinet sizes suitable for all kitchen spaces?

Please refer to the article below from 3A Design to understand more details about the size criteria of different kitchen cabinet models for kitchen space design.
How to calculate the dimensions of a common kitchen cabinet model.
To ensure your kitchen space is used and functions optimally, you need to know how to calculate the detailed dimensions for each kitchen style. Below are some methods for calculating the dimensions of standard kitchen corners.
How to calculate the dimensions of an L-shaped kitchen cabinet
L-shaped kitchen cabinets are usually measured by summing the lengths of the two sides of the cabinet and subtracting the depth, taking into account the intersecting corners.

If the L-shaped kitchen cabinet system includes both upper and lower cabinets, apply the calculation method as above. Alternatively, depending on the function of your kitchen, you can take the total length of the two sides and subtract the average depth of the two cabinets.

How to Calculate the Dimensions of an I-Shaped Kitchen Cabinet
If your kitchen cabinet is I-shaped, you only need to measure the length accurately to determine the overall dimensions. If the kitchen cabinet design is straight and fits into a corner, including both upper and lower cabinets, you need to measure both to calculate the correct overall dimensions.

How to Calculate the Dimensions of a U-Shaped Kitchen Cabinet
For a U-shaped kitchen design, during construction and installation, you need to pay attention to the length of the three sides of the kitchen cabinet. Then, you need to add them up and subtract the depth of the cabinets at the two corners to determine the exact dimensions for the cabinet design.

- Some things to keep in mind when choosing dimensions during design.
Standard height of kitchen cabinets
- Lower kitchen cabinets: Standard height from 80cm to 90cm, suitable for the average height of Vietnamese people, making cooking convenient.
- Upper kitchen cabinets: Standard height from 70cm to 80cm, ensuring sufficient storage space and ease of use.
Standard depth of kitchen cabinets
- Lower kitchen cabinets: Standard depth from 50cm to 60cm, providing ample space for kitchen appliances and work surfaces.
- Upper kitchen cabinets: Standard depth from 30cm to 40cm, suitable for storing kitchen utensils without obstructing the view.
The gap between the upper and lower kitchen cabinets.
The standard distance between upper and lower kitchen cabinets is 60cm to 70cm, ensuring a comfortable and safe working space.
Kitchen walkway dimensions
To ensure convenient movement, the distance between sections of kitchen cabinets (such as between two sides of a U-shaped kitchen cabinet) should be 1.2m to 1.5m.
Example of how to calculate L-shaped kitchen cabinet dimensions
Assume you have two sides of an L-shaped kitchen cabinet with lengths of 3m and 2m respectively. The depth of the lower cabinet is 60cm and the upper cabinet is 35cm.
- Lower kitchen cabinets: Total length = 3m + 2m – 0.6m = 4.4m.
- Upper kitchen cabinets: Total length = 3m + 2m – 0.35m = 4.65m.
Notes on choosing the height in kitchen cabinet design.
According to feng shui principles, kitchen cabinet dimensions should follow the Lu Ban ruler to bring good fortune and wealth. For example, the height of the lower cabinets should be 81cm or 86cm, and the depth should be 61cm to comply with feng shui.
Adhering to standard dimensions and feng shui principles will help make your kitchen space convenient, harmonious, and comfortable to use.
